Francine Tint’s paintings are the result of a process of disclosure, drawn from her own life events, dreams, and readings. Influenced by the movements of color field and action painting, and painters such as Helen Frankenthaler and Larry Poons, Tint has developed an impressive body of work which has been lauded by critics and honored with prestigious awards and grants.

Working wet on wet, Tint paints in flustered, energetic, and assertive brushstrokes. Through short, sharp bursts of color, her art expresses a unique sense of contemporary life and personal experience.

Critics have long praised Tint on her knack for strong color choices and the energy and movement in her expansive, mural-sized paintings.

Karen Wilken (Art in America): “[Francine’s] strengths have always been her idosyncratic sense of color, her ability to draw energetically at large scale, and her refusal to make ingratiating pictures. In her recent work, her audacity is undiminished than ever, and her drawing — sometimes manifest as line, sometimes assigned to the edges of color incidents –even more unpredictable.”

Piri Halasz (The Observer): “...her lines are more emphatic, more confident...they operate as independent entities, sitting on the surface of the field of paint...Lovely”

Tint has been the proud recipient of prestigious grants and awards, including two Pollock Krasner Grants, the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Grant, and Honorable Mention from the Butler Institute.

Tint’s work has been show extensively both nationally and internationally, and is held in the permanent collections of over 25 museums, including the Portland Art Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art, and the Krannert Art Museum. She has been featured in over 30 solo shows, most recently at Cavalier Galleries and Walter Wickiser in New York City.
